Restaurant Review

Hibachi's Teriyaki is a Treat

Located just steps from the Hermosa Beach Pier, Hibachi Restaurant has some of the best teriyaki dishes in the beach cities in a cozy and relaxed setting.

Hibachi has a sparse menu but it makes up for it with the food's quality. Hibachi makes its teriyaki sauce and salad dressing fresh daily, and it shows with a sweet and delicious flavor.

Teriyaki is served at Hibachi with pork, hamburger, fish, shrimp and steak. But I decided on one of my favorites, Chicken Teriyaki.

I started the meal with a sui mai appetizer, steamed pork dumplings served with two different dipping sauces. The mild flavor of the dumplings blended well with sinus-clearing hot mustard sauce or the more mild cocktail sauce. For an appetizer, there were also the choices of steamed artichokes, beef kabob or marinated pork teriyaki strips.

The marinated chicken teriyaki was boneless and skinless. On the same plate it came with all-you-can-eat rice and a salad covered with bean sprouts, red onions and carrots. Both the teriyaki sauce and the salad were served on the side.

Because of its quality, I drowned my chicken and rice in the teriyaki sauce. It tasted great on the chicken, which according to Hibachi's menu is the restaurant's most popular dish. I can see why.

The salad had a tangy dressing that is tomato, basil and vinaigrette-based. The restaurant staff would not give any more details on the excellent dressing with its unique and pleasing taste.

Besides the great food, the prices at Hibachi are very reasonable.

Entrees range from a $7.50 cheeseburger to a $12.95 teriyaki sirloin steak. They also serve several different salads like the teriyaki chicken salad and the Hibachi meat salad. Shrimp and beef kabobs and ribs are also offered.
